Why Traditional Finnish Saunas?

Ours are built the way a house is built: a framed envelope, insulated to R-13 or better, sealed behind a vapour barrier, clad in Western Red Cedar inside and metal outside. That construction is what makes proper löyly possible at 80 to 100°C, holds the heat instead of pouring it into the yard, and keeps the whole thing standing outdoors for twenty-five years and more. The usual alternatives cannot do that.
